Car sharing now also available in Andermatt thanks to Sponti-Car and Alpine Mobility

November 22, 2023

Sponti-Car, the sustainable Swiss car sharing service, is now also available in Andermatt. The electric mobility-based service offers numerous benefits to locals and guests in Andermatt. Following the on-demand mobility service mybuxi, this is the second mobility initiative of the Alpine Mobility association, which aims to promote sustainable mobility in the Gotthard region and establish it in the long term.

Sponti-Car has been providing its partner municipalities and companies with electric vehicles for car sharing since 2016. The company from Hombrechtikon is also bringing the concept of car sharing to non-urban regions in collaboration with public institutions and other organisations - as is now the case in Andermatt, for example. The Alpine Mobility association (www.alpine-mobility.ch) works with partners to develop and operate sustainable mobility services for locals, employees and guests, focussing on the Gotthard region as a supplement to public transport. The association has made a conscious decision in favour of using electric vehicles and running them on energy from the local energy supplier in order to make the service as environmentally friendly as possible.

A car for everyone - 24/7, 365 days a year

Founder and Managing Director Mark Ritzmann emphasises that the Sponti-Car is available to all locals as well as guests in the region. The aim of the service is to give everyone access to an environmentally friendly car in order to reduce the number of second cars in the long term, encourage people to travel by public transport and minimise local traffic.

Yves Althaus from Alpine Mobility comments: "With the Sponti-Car mobility concept, we can make electric mobility available to customers and thus achieve our goal of creating more environmentally friendly mobility in the Gotthard region."

The Sponti-Car car sharing service makes optimum use of resources and remains climate-neutral. The Sponti-Car in Andermatt is charged with electricity from renewable sources. Since 2016, Sponti-Car has established itself in over 40 German-speaking Swiss municipalities (in the canton of Uri already in Erstfeld and Unterschächen) and in the Principality of Liechtenstein and now has around 5,000 active users. In 2022, the Sponti-Car fleet covered a total of more than 800,000 kilometres, saving over 240 tonnes of CO2 compared to journeys with combustion engines.

Initiative as part of the "KIMM" project

The Alpine Mobility association is launching the Sponti-Car service as part of the KIMM project (combinable, innovative, emission-free mobility services). The aim is to launch alternative collective mobility services in the Gotthard region by the end of 2024 and then link them digitally. The association can count on the support of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO (Innotour funding instrument), the Albert Köchlin Foundation (project contribution as part of the "clever on the move in the real-world laboratory" mobility project) and the municipality of Andermatt.
